The 2 Types of Stroke
There are 2 main types of stroke. These are ischemic and hemorrhagic.
Ischemic Stroke
Also known as cerebrovascular accident, this occurs when a blood clot blocks an artery and prevents blood from reaching the brain, causing brain cells to die. This type of stroke also accounts for about 87% of stroke cases.
Hemorrhagic Stroke
This type of stroke occurs when an artery supplying blood to the brain ruptures, leaking blood into the brain. It accounts for about 13% of stroke cases, however, it is responsible for more than 30% of all stroke deaths.
